The law now grants fifteen weeks of maternity leave to all mothers, even those who had to stop work early.

Currently, a pregnant woman who cannot work in late pregnancy loses part of her maternity leave. These mothers are not entitled to the fifteen weeks of post-natal leave to which other mothers, who were not incapacitated for work before birth, are nevertheless entitled. A new law adopted on June 4, puts an end to this, with retroactive effect from March 1, 2020.

Perhaps our legislators will turn their attention now to increasing the length of paid maternity leave.
