In July 2011, 599 businesses in Belgium went bankrupt, a rise of 0.8% compared to July 2010.

In the past seven months, the most affected sectors have been construction (a rise of 9%) and hotel and catering (a rise of 3.5%). Industry and commerce seem to have fared better with 2.1% fewer bankruptcies in industry and 2.1% fewer in commerce. The Flemish Region actually registered 6.9% fewer bankruptcies in 2011 over the comparable period in 2010 but they were up 15.1% in the Brussels Region and 6.9% in the Walloon Region.
