Working as a freelancer
A freelancer is often referred to as an ‘independent’ in Belgium. As a freelancer, you don’t work in a company structure so there is no separation of your personal tax liability and that of a company.
Depending on how much you invoice, this can be an inefficient way of working in Belgium since as a freelancer you pay income tax on all your earnings (after expenses have been deducted). However, it is quick and easy to get established as a freelancer in Belgium and it can be a good way to test a new business idea before you take the company route.
